PITTSBURGH, Pa. - February 22, 2022 - Chatham Women's Basketball, seeded fourth in this year's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Women's Basketball Tournament, hosted the fifth-seeded Bethany College this evening in the Quarterfinal round.
In typical fashion, graduate student Julianna Skowron was the first Cougar to get on the board. Despite considerable defensive efforts from the Bison, the Cougars would strike again after several scoreless minutes for both teams in the form of a three from junior Riley D'Angelo. Graduate student Maddy Grennes would follow with two straight buckets before classmate Brittani Smith secured her first point of the night at the charity stripe. First-year Emily Durkee would strike in the final thirty seconds of the quarter with a huge three to give the Cougars a one-point advantage heading into the second quarter.
Skowron would once more notch the first point of the quarter, thanks to an assist from first-year Zelimar Rodriguez. Grennes and Smith would follow up with points of their own. It would be Durkee with another late basket to revive the Cougar offense after several scoreless minutes. The Cougars would end the half with 23 points, trailing the Bison by two.
A slow start to the second half would result in just nine points for the home team coming out of the third half while Bethany totaled 43. Chatham's points were supplied by Skowron, Grennes, and junior Sierra McClain.
In the fourth, Chatham would have more luck offensively, with near immediate baskets from Smith and first-year Aurielle Brunner. Grennes would get fouled mid-shot, eventually getting her two points off of her free throws. Durkee would hammer a three just minutes later with an assist to Grennes. The Cougars would go some time without scoring before Riley D'Angelo caught a long pass for the layup.
The loss stops the Cougars' season in its tracks after 17 overall wins with 11 in conference.
