PITTSTON, Pa. – February 19, 2022 – The Chatham men's hockey team used a stellar third period to break away from King's College Saturday evening on the road, downing the Monarchs 5-2. The Cougars finish their regular season 9-12-2 overall and 8-8-2 in conference action.
It took the Cougars nearly the full first period, but they broke through when senior captain
Tristan Simm scored the ice breaking goal with a little under three minutes remaining in the first after a double assist from co-captain
Michael Lamison and sophomore
Jackson Koblick. Chatham led 1-0 after one.
King's went on to score the next two goals, taking a 2-1 lead for the majority of the second period. In the final couple of minutes of the second, first-year
Evan Mitchell scored his seventh of the season with assists by classmates
Matthew Doyle Joshuwa Kalinowski, evening the game 2-2 after two.
Chatham struck quickly in the third period, including two goals in 33 seconds. Junior
Kenneth Gill scored the go-ahead goal after Simm and classmate
Aidan Girduckis assisted. Just a few seconds later, sophomore
Carson Grainer scored with a double assist from Lamison and junior
Andrew Warhoftig. The final insurance goal was Doyle scoring from Mitchell and Warhoftig, putting the final at 5-2.
The Cougars dominated the stat line, outshooting King's 49-26 on goal. Chatham also was one-for-two on the power play. Senior
Ricardo Gonzalez bounced back with a 24-save performance.
