Men’s Basketball Falls to W&J on Senior Night

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – February 16, 2022 – The Chatham men's basketball team was looking to secure first place outright in Wednesday's pivotal match with Washington & Jefferson but came up on the short end of a 98-83 final score. Chatham falls to 19-3 overall and 14-3 in PAC play.

Prior to the start of the game, men's basketball honored its four seniors Shawn Erceg, Nick Bomar, Ben Pollock and Malik Potter. Chatham fell behind early and had to play keep up with the visiting Presidents, getting in a 29-13 hole after three quick baskets by the Presidents. The offense struggled to generate shots in the first half despite making five threes, trailing W&J 49-32 at the break.

In the second half, W&J expanded its lead to as many as 25 halfway through the second half. However, the Cougars attempted a furious rally late cutting the deficit to as little as 11, but a flurry of President offense sealed the Cougars' fate in a 98-83 final.

The Cougars shot 39% for the game and 26% from deep. However, they were outrebounded 48-36 for the game. Chatham did cash in on most free throws for the game, 18-21 total which was good for 86%.

Leading scorer Marcos Cintron poured in a career-high 27 points with 5 steals. First-year Blaine Gartley also had a career day with 20 points, including 8-10 from the free throw line. Potter chipped in 11 points with two blocks. Bomar pulled in a game-best 13 rebounds.

Chatham closes the regular season on Saturday on the road at Franciscan, tipping off at 4:00.
