PITTSBURGH, Pa. - February 14, 2022 - Chatham Women's Basketball hosted Franciscan this evening in a PAC matchup. The Cougars got ahead early and poured on the insurance points often, giving them the go-ahead win with a 65-35 final.
Graduate student Julianna Skowron would score just 15 seconds into the game, paving the way for classmate Maddy Grennes, juniors Riley 'Angelo and Sierra McClain, and senior Aliyah Labriola to get creative offensively. The first-years would get involved in the scoring later in the quarter, generated primarily by Aurielle Brunner, Emily Durkee, and Zelimar Rodriguez.
Up 23-8 heading into the second quarter, the Cougars would add another 13 points thanks to D'Angelo, Rodriguez, Labriola, and first-year Keegan McConahy.
To start the second half, Sierra McClain would drill a three before hitting two free throws, followed on the charity stripe by Julianna Skowron for two more. D'Angelo and Durkee continued to work the floor before a Rodriguez jumper took the Cougars to 50.
With a nearly 30-point lead by the fourth quarter, new Cougars were able to get some floor time. Namely, first-year Zoe Zeitlin found the net for three thanks to a pass from junior Taylor Glass, which was followed by a second consecutive Glass-assisted three from Ashley Guidone.
With the win, the Cougars hit double-digit conference wins while earning their 16th overall win. They have a chance to improve this record further on Wednesday, February 16th at home against Washington & Jefferson.
