Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Conner’s OT Game Winner Seals Thrilling Senior Day Win

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – February 12, 2022 – The Chatham men's hockey team faced overtime for the fifth time this season and were mere seconds away from its third tie of the season. That was when reigning UCHC Rookie of the Week Zack Conner scored the second of his two goals and won it in overtime, 3-2 over Lebanon Valley, improving Chatham's record to 8-10-2 overall and 7-6-2 in conference play.

Prior to the start of the contest, the Cougars honored their five seniors in Michael Lamison, Tristan Simm, Jason Bauer, Anthony Dom and Ricardo Gonzalez. After a scoreless first period, the Cougars broke through at around the seven-minute mark after junior Kenneth Gill found Simm for the icebreaking goal. The score read 1-0 after two.

In the third period, Chatham thought it added the insurance goal after Conner scored the first of his two tallies after getting a double assist from Gill and Lamison. Lebanon Valley got on the board shortly after Conner's first goal, and then sent the game to overtime with 1:48 to go in regulation after putting on the extra skater.

In overtime, Chatham dominated the Dutchmen defensively, not allowing a single shot in the overtime period. In the waning seconds of overtime, the senior captain Simm would find Conner for the game winning goal, giving Chatham two points in the UCHC standings.

For the game, Chatham dominated the shot department, holding a 50-34 edge over Lebanon Valley. Neither team had many extra-man opportunities, with the Cougars killing off two LVC power play chances and the Dutchmen only committing one penalty. Gonzalez had a 32-save night in 64:39 played.

Chatham embarks to the final week of the regular season where it will play three straight road games prior to the UCHC tournament. Up first is a trip to Maryland to take on Stevenson at 1:00 on Tuesday, February 15.
