PITTSBURGH, Pa. - December 3, 2022 - Chatham Men's Hockey hosted Wilkes again today to round out their regular season series with the Colonels. After last night's overtime win in Chatham's favor, Wilkes came out with a vengeance that translated to a four-goal afternoon.
The Colonels would strike first on the power-play late in the first, and it would take until the second period for the Cougars to answer back with Andrew Warhoftig picking a corner. Evan Mitchell and Kenneth Gill were both credited with assists.
Wilkes could go on to score three straight goals, in the second and third periods, including an empty-netter. Lucas Rothe would score a late goal in tight after catching a pass from Michael Hurst to make the final score 4-2.
Caden Smith led the Cougars' offense with six shots, followed by Oscar Saarinen and Nick Cyprian with four each. Evan Mitchell won a team-high ten draws in the circle.
Defensively, Matthew Doyle logged two blocks. Goaltender Ricardo Gonzalez made 29 saves, including 13 in the first period.
The Cougars are back in action next weekend at home against Lebanon Valley.
