Men's Basketball Suffers One-Point Loss at W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. - November 30, 2022 - Chatham Men's Basketball suffered a heartbreaking 70-69 loss on the road at W&J Wednesday evening. The Cougars are now 2-4 on the year and 2-1 in conference play. With the loss, Chatham remains winless on the road and undefeated at home.

Junior guard Simon Boyer dropper a career-high 24 points, which led the game in scoring. Boyer ranks second on the Cougars with 14.2 points per game this season. Graduate guard Nick Bomar posted his second double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds and added four steals. Sophomore guard Isaiah Smith led the team with four assists, bringing his season total up to 21, which is first on the Cougars.

W&J led by 13 points with 11:33 to play, but the Cougars were able to cut the deficit to just one in the final minute. After getting the ball back down one in the closing seconds, the Cougars were unable to sink the potential game-winning bucket as time expired.

After a defensive minded first half that ended 29-26 in favor of W&J, both teams turned up the scoring in the second, with 40 point halves from both squads. Chatham shot 44.7% (17-38) from the field in the second half, while W&J shot 45.2% (14-31). Despite the offensive rhythm, neither side was able to get things going from deep, with the Cougars finishing at 26.1% (6-23) from three and the Presidents 18.8% (3-16).

Chatham out rebounded W&J 50-40, but lost the turnover battle 19-14.

Men's Basketball is back in action Saturday at 2 PM against Bethany as part of a Men's-Women's basketball doubleheader at the AFC.
