PITTSBURGH, Pa. - November 22, 2022 - Chatham Women's Basketball defeated Geneva 99-62 on Tuesday night at the Athletics and Fitness Center. The Cougars improve to 4-1 on the year and 2-0 in PAC play with the win.
Chatham's 99 points scored was the team's most since Nov. 16, 2007 against Penn State New Kensington, when they scored 102 points to set the program record.
First year forward
Alyssa Laukus set a new career high and led the team with 18 points on 8-11 shooting. First year guard
Hannah Chenault recorded 13 rebounds, falling two points shy of a double-double. Sophomore guard
Aurielle Brunner continued her defensive reign of terror as she registered seven steals to go along with 12 points. Brunner has put up 10+ points and 4+ steals in 4 of 5 games this season. The Altoona, Pa. native also led the team with six assists on the night. Two other Cougars, sophomore guards
Ashlie Louden and
Zelimar Rodriguez, finished in double figures with 15 and 11 points, respectively.
Domination started early for the Cougars, as they scored 31 points in the first quarter and 58 in the first half to go into the break with a commanding 58-27 lead. The Cougars were 24-46 (52.2%) from the field in the first half and held the Golden Tornadoes to just 8-33 shooting (24.2%) in that same span.
Chatham won the rebounding battle 55-52 and committed just 16 turnovers compared to Geneva's 27. The Cougars attempted 43 free throws, which sets a new program high. The previous mark was 42, set in the 2012-13 season.
Following the Thanksgiving break, Women's Basketball will be back at home Nov. 30 against Washington & Jefferson in game two of a four-game home stretch.
