PITTSBURGH, Pa. - November 16, 2022 - Chatham Men's Basketball earned its first victory of the season Wednesday evening over Waynesburg 76-71. With the win, the Cougars are now 1-2 on the year and 1-0 in conference play.
Sophomore guard
Isaiah Smith led the game with 22 points on 7-13 shooting, including 6-9 shooting on three-pointers. The Mount Union transfer also racked up five steals which led the game as well. Graduate wing
Nick Bomar notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Senior guard
Marcos Cintron and sophomore guard
Blaine Gartley were the other two Cougars in double figures, with 16 and 15 points respectively. Additionally, Cintron and Gartley each tallied three assists to lead the team.
Chatham came out firing from three-point range early and often. Each of the Cougars first 10 shot attempts were threes, hitting five. They attempting 35 three-pointers in the game, including 21 in the first half alone. The Yellow Jackets employed the opposite strategy offensively, shooting just 14 threes in 65 shots. The Cougars led by as many as 15 in the second half, but watched their lead dwindle to three with 1:46. However, they were able to hold on thanks to clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch.
The Yellow Jackets won the rebounding battle 41-36, but the Cougars 14 threes proved to be too much to overcome.
Men's Basketball will be back in action Tuesday at home against Geneva.
