Women's Basketball Defends Home Court Against Fredonia

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - November 12, 2022 - Chatham Women's Basketball defeated Fredonia 65-56 on Saturday afternoon at home. With the win, the Cougars improve to 2-0 on the year. This marks the fourth time the program has started 2-0 under head coach David Saur.

First year guard Katie Schaible led the team in scoring with 17 points, 15 of which came off of three pointers. Sophomore guard Emily Durkee scored 16 points and paced the squad with five assists. Sophomore forward Samantha Hardy grabbed seven rebounds, including five offensive rebounds. Three different Cougars grabbed at least five offensive rebounds: Hardy, first year guard Hannah Chenault and sophomore guard Aurielle Brunner, who had six.

The Cougars struggled mightily from beyond the arc in the first half, going 2-16, but they took a two point lead into the break thanks to solid defending. However, the second half was a different story for Chatham, as they went 9-20 from downtown with Schaible and Durkee combining for seven threes.

Chatham outrebounded Fredonia 44-35, including a 25-9 advantage on the offensive glass. The Cougars also won the turnover battle, committing just 12 giveaways to the Blue Devils' 22.

Women's Basketball will play its third straight home game on Wednesday when conference play starts against Waynesburg.
