Men’s Hockey Splits with Skidmore in Season-Opening Series

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - October 29, 2022 - Chatham Men's Hockey completed their non-conference series against Skidmore this afternoon after defeating the Thoroughbreds 2-1 in overtime last night. Today's game would finish 3-1 in Skidmore's favor.

Skidmore would find the back of the net late in the first, leaving Chatham trailing. Neither team would score in the second.

Just over halfway through the third, junior Carson Grainer would score his first goal of the season with senior Andrew Warhoftig and first-year Nick Cyprian picking up points on the assists.

Unfortunately for the visiting Cougars, the Thoroughbreds would pick up a power-play goal just minutes later to regain the lead. The Cougars kept firing with under a minute to play, but Skidmore's defense stayed strong, blocking several shots back-to-back. The Thoroughbreds would score one final time on an empty net to make the game 3-1.

Nick Cyprian and Carson Grainer led the team in shots on goal with four. Andrew Warhoftig would register a team-high three blocks in addition to his assist.

First-year goaltender Nick Bernstein would make 37 saves in his collegiate debut, allowing just two goals, only one of which was even-strength.

The Cougars even out their record at 1-1 ahead of conference play, set to commence next weekend, November 4th and 5th, at King's College.
