SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - October 28, 2022 - Chatham Men's Hockey opened their season this evening at Skidmore College. After two scoreless periods, both teams would light the lamp in the third to force overtime, which Chatham would claim as theirs just one minute in.
Chatham net minder Ricardo Gonzalez would stop all 16 shots in the first and second periods, adding another 11 throughout the third.
Newcomer Caden Smith would record the first goal of the season for the Cougars early in the third with junior Chris Dusek recording the assist.
Gonzalez and the Cougars would hold the one-goal lead until the game's final six minutes, after which the Thoroughbreds would get the equalizer.
Just one minute into three-on-three overtime, first-year Nick Cyprian would score the golden goal, capitalizing on a play set up by Smith and junior Aidan Girduckis.
Smith led the Cougars in shots on goal with six, followed by Cyprian, Dusek, sophomores Evan Mitchell and Matthew Doyle, and senior Andrew Warhoftig with three apiece.
Senior Matt Mood would win a team-high seven face-offs in the circle. Trailing Mood were first-year Bekk McClaine and sophomore Dimitri Hey with five and four, respectively.
The Cougars will have another go at the Thoroughbreds tomorrow afternoon at 4 PM to round out their trip.
