HIRAM, Ohio - October 15, 2022 - Chatham University Women's and Men's Swimming and Diving opened their season today with a dual meet at Hiram College. The Women's team would earn a dominant 164-98 victory while the Men would fall short at 154-48 Hiram.
The meet began with a 200 meter medley relay which saw a .01 second victory by the team of sophomores Maddy Cisco and Kaya Vital, junior Abigail Glasspool, and first-year Hannah Kane at 2:22.46.
Numerous members of Cougar Women's Swimming and Diving would notch first-place victories. Sophomore Natalia Alardin would finish her 800 free at 12:37.57, followed by first-year Joelle Blake in the 200 free at 2:31.01 and Maddy Cisco in the 50 back at 34.83.
The 50 free featured junior Jessica Brant and sophomore Sydney Sweger in first and second places with times of 32.88 and 33.13 respectively.
Glasspool and Cisco would soon find their way back to the top podium spot with victories in the 100 free (1:08.84) and 100 back (1:15.74). Kane would join them soon after in the 400 free (5:32.94) and Glasspool added one last individual victory in the 200 IM (2:55.90).
Sophomore Alison Cowan, who was the lone competitor in the 1 meter dive, scored a 177.75.
For good measure, the team of Cisco, Kane, Brant, and Blake would finish the 400 free relay in an impressive 4:44.67 for first place, followed by Sweger, Vital, Brant, and sophomore Cassidy Kinney in second at 5:28.48.
The Men's team had several first- and second-place individual finishes as well. Junior Karl Gangloff swum the 800 free in a time of 9:54.25, a full one minute and 30 seconds ahead of the next finisher. Gangloff would score second in both the 50 fly and 100 free.
Sophomore Hayden Acker would take second in the 100 back (1:32.26) and classmate Hunter Holcomb would do the same in the 100 back (1:24.83) and 200 IM (3:02.79). First-year Brady Gardner would earned a personal-high finish of second in the 400 free at 5:35.45.
The Cougars are on the road again next Friday, October 21 at Wheeling for a 5 PM start.
