PITTSBURGH, Pa. - January 8, 2022 - Chatham Women's Hockey hosted Wilkes University today in their regular season series finale. Taking an early lead, the Cougars would maintain their offense throughout and come out on top of a 7-0 victory.
The Cougars picked up right where they left off yesterday, scoring just under four minutes into the game thanks to sophomore Allison Corser-James, who picked up her own rebound. Classmate Ally Nolan and Junior Brooke Almond would take responsibility for the next two goals - Nolan finding the back of the net off of a face-off win and pass from Almond respectively.
With a 3-0 lead heading into the second, the Cougar scoring spree did not halt. Corser-James came back for a second goal on the Colonels' power play with an assist to Nolan. Nolan would follow with a goal of her own to complete her hat trick on the power play, thanks to a solid set up from Almond and first-year Samantha Barrett. First-year Trinity Antonio and sophomore Lauren Carmody would each find the back of the net, capitalizing off of passes from sophomores Cameron Carmody, Ariel Garbin, and Corser-James.
After a goaltending change on behalf of the visitors after seven goals against, the Cougars had a more difficult time scoring and focused on their playmaking instead.
The Cougars registered 55 shots on goal, while the Colonels only managed 19. Sophomore goaltender Lilly Rogers stopped all 19 for the shutout.
Chatham now stands at 7-6 overall and 6-4 in conference. Their next contests are Friday and Saturday, January 14 and 15, at Utica College.
