PITTSBURGH, Pa. – January 29, 2022 – The Chatham men's basketball team entered Saturday's game seeking redemption for its lone loss of the season. The Cougars got that and more with an 86-68 win against the Golden Tornadoes at home, extending Chatham's winning streak to a school record seven games. The Cougars are now 13-1 overall and 8-1 in PAC play.
It wasn't the immediate start that the Cougars were looking for as they coughed up four turnovers in the first 2:24. After falling behind 7-2 and 22-16, the Cougars went on a pair of runs to snatch the lead from the visitors, one that would only grow with time. It was capped off with a last second three-point splash by first-year
Blaine Gartley as the first half expired, giving the Cougars a 42-30 lead.
In the second half, Chatham never relinquished the lead. While Geneva made some runs to slice the gap to as small as six, timely baskets put the lead once again into double digits and eventually out of reach, with the highest it getting to being 20.
Chatham hit on 35 field goals, shooting .486 from the field and making 10 threes. It also heavily outrebounded the Golden tornadoes by a 42-30 margin despite the opposition having a player reaching a double double.
Leading the way was junior
Brandon Lavernia, who scored a season-high 20 points off the bench.
Simon Boyer also put together his best game in his sophomore campaign, shooting seven-of-11 from the field for 18 points and eight rebounds. Rounding out the double-digit scoring was Gartley with 14.
Chatham hits the road for a Monday night tilt with Bethany College beginning at 7:30.
