GREENVILLE, Pa. – January 26, 2022 – The Chatham men's basketball team got out to a big lead and were able to hold on amidst a Thiel charge in the second half, winning the game 80-66. The win improves Chatham's record to 11-1 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
The Cougars took care of business in the first half, jumping out to a 19-point halftime lead. The Cougars shot in the mid 40's at .469 in the first half, including six threes to balloon the lead. The second half, however, came much tougher. Thiel rallied for a 17-0 run to slice the Chatham lead to two, but the Cougars were able to pump the lead back to double digits and secure the road victory.
Chatham shot nearly 44% from the floor for the game, but the Cougars came up big in the free throw department. Chatham went 23-29 from the charity stripe (79%) but went 16-18 from the line in the second half.
Junior
Marcos Cintron led the Cougars in scoring with 20 and was the only Chatham player to hit multiple threes. There were three other Cougars in double figures, as senior
Malik Potter and junior
Brandon Lavernia each scored 14 while senior
Ben Pollock added 10 points.
Chatham looks to avenge its only loss on the year this Saturday, January 29 with a home match against Geneva College, tipping off at 2:00.
