Chatham Swarms Past Yellow Jackets for Fourth Straight Win

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – January 24, 2022 – The Cougars' winning streak extended to four straight Monday night as they swarmed past the visiting Waynesburg Yellow Jackets 80-63 at home. Chatham's record improves to 10-1 on the season and 5-1 in conference action.

The first half went back and forth, with the Cougars mostly controlling the game but did allow a marginal Yellow Jacket lead late in the first half. However, that 24-22 Waynesburg lead turned into a 7-0 Chatham run which ended the first half, putting the Cougars ahead 29-24.

The second half was all Chatham. The Cougars made it rain three's all second half and their shooting from the floor was at a superb 56.8%. The Cougars cashed in on eight threes for the second half and a baker's dozen for the game as Chatham ran away with the 17-point win.

The stingy Cougar defense held the second-leading scorer in the Presidents' Athletic Conference to just 10 points, 12 under his points per game average. As for the game, Chatham's stellar second half offensively helped the Cougars reach a .477 shooting clip total. They also had a sizable 49-38 rebounding margin thanks to double-digit rebounding efforts by sophomore Simon Boyer and senior Ben Pollock with 13 and 11, respectively.

Junior Marcos Cintron had the hot hand, scoring a team-best 20 points on eight-of-10 shooting from the field. Classmate Brandon Lavernia wasn't far behind with 19 points as was senior Malik Potter with his 17. The pair hit a quartet of threes. Boyer was one point away from a double-double with nine points on the night. Lavernia led a group off the bench that scored 23 points compared to Waynesburg's four.

The Cougars turn their attention to Wednesday night, January 26 as they head to Thiel College for a rematch which tips off at 7:30.
