PITTSBURGH, Pa. – January 22, 2022 – After securing first place outright in the Presidents' Athletic Conference earlier in the week, the Chatham men's basketball team played its first home game in nearly two months and dominated the visiting Saint Vincent Bearcats 77-41. Chatham's record improves to 10-1 overall and 5-1 in conference.
The tone was set early when senior
Malik Potter buried a three on the first possession of the game. Despite Saint Vincent taking a small 6-4 lead, the Cougars responded in a mammoth way. They ended the first half on a 36-7 run to take a 40-13 lead into half.
Both teams traded blows in the second half, but the Cougars created even more separation, building up a lead that ballooned to as large as 41. When all was said and done, all 17 men's basketball players that dressed touched the floor as the Cougars steamrolled their way to another win and a season-sweep of Saint Vincent, their sixth straight win over the Bearcats.
Chatham shot 43.9% from the floor, including a dozen made threes. Potter and senior
Nick Fiumara had four threes apiece as a quartet of Cougars including those two scored in double-figures. The leader was senior
Ben Pollock, who nabbed his second straight double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Joining them was junior
Marcos Cintron, who scored 15 points.
In what is the start of four weeks playing three games a week, Chatham returns home in less than 48 hours with a match against Waynesburg, tipping off at 7:30.
