Women’s Basketball Falls to Grove City

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - January 12, 2022 - Chatham Women's Basketball hosted Grove City this evening in a PAC matchup. *

The Wolverines would demonstrate offensive pressure right from tipoff, scoring the first two points of the game. First-year Aurielle Brunner would fire back soon after, followed by graduate students Julianna Skowron and Maddy Grennes. First-year Emily Durkee would notch a free throw before the quarter was through, leaving the Cougars trailing by eight.

Skowron would be the sole Cougar to score throughout the quarter, providing three baskets to help break up Grove City's continuous offensive possession. At half, the Cougars trailed 23-13.

In the third, Maddy Grennes would hit an early jumper before the Wolverines tallied a few more of their own. Emily Durkee and Julianna Skowron would further contribute to the host offense, soon halving the scoring deficit. Senior Aliyah Labriola would check in  and record her first points of the game off of three free throws. Those would be the final points of the quarter for the Cougars; the Wolverines posted another 16.

At the top of the fourth, Brunner would hit a three before Grennes was fouled on a good jumper. Grennes would cut the Wolverines' lead down to single digits from the charity stripe before assisting another two points from Skowron. Emily Durkee would record her fifth point of the game just past the halfway point of the quarter and junior Riley D'Angelo would sink a three in the game's final minutes.

The final score was 59-40 in favor of the Wolverines.

The Cougars now stand at 8-3 overall and 2-2 in conference. Their next contest is this Saturday, January 15th, at 12 PM against the visiting Franciscan Barons.
