Despinos Nets Two in Shutout Victory Over Pitt-Greensburg

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - September 15, 2021 - Chatham Men's Soccer hosted Pitt-Greensburg this evening in a non-conference matchup. Despite a scoreless first half, the Cougars came out on top of a 2-0 game.

The Cougars kept the Bobcats busy with their offense throughout the first half, getting 12 shots off and making the Pitt-Greensburg goalkeeper work for five saves.

Chatham maintained steady control of the offensive zone, forcing two Pitt-Greensburg fouls to close out the half.

After 65 scoreless minutes, sophomore midfielder Pascal Despinos broke the stalemate. Pitt-Greensburg would pick up their offensive efforts immediately after, but was unsuccessful thanks to first-year keeper Trevor Rose.

Just five minutes later, Despinos would put the Bobcats away for good with another unassisted goal.

With the lead, the Cougars stayed focused on the whole-field game. Rose faced several scoring chances from the Bobcats in the final ten minutes, all of which he shut down.

Rose totaled five saves in the shutout to complement Despinos' pair of goals. Despinos also led the Cougars in shots on goal with four, followed by single shots from Emmet Taub, Ryan Tahbaz, Leandro Nasso, Zachary Delgiudice, Franco Ibanez, Spencer Houck, and Stephen Comeaux.

With the win, the Cougars now stand at 2-2-1 heading into another non-conference matchup at Juniata on Saturday.
