Cougars Rally from Five Goal Deficit to Defeat Titans in OT

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - April 26, 2021 - Men's Lacrosse hosted PAC foe Westminster College this evening in one of the final regular season matchups of 2021. Despite being down by five goals to start the game, the Cougars fought back to secure crucial PAC points.

Westminster took an early lead that would prove unconvincing. Chatham's scoring began with junior Nicholas Guaglione, who netted the lone Cougar goal of the first quarter in the final 40 seconds.

Chatham took advantage of their late momentum and carried it into the second quarter. Senior Daniel Napier would score the first goal with an assist to Guaglione. First-year Riley Lewis was next on the board followed by senior Dillon Dugan, who received a pass from junior Andrew Mattingly and made the most of an extra-man opportunity.

Westminster would score one goal in the second to make the score 6-4, but Dugan struck again with an assist to Ben Neal to reset the deficit to one.

Westminster would get the next goal of the game before Chatham would get back into offensive action. Guaglione would score a man-up goal along with help from senior Adam Bleess before netting an equalizing even strength goal. Tyler Hayes would score Chatham's eighth goal soon after, putting them ahead for the first time all evening.

Westminster would play with more urgency in the fourth quarter, tying the Cougars with four goals each, including a late tying goal. Adam Bleess would score a hat trick, one of which was an extra-man opportunity. Bleess' offensive efforts would be supplemented by classmate Tyler Hayes, who both scored his own goal and assisted on one from Bleess.

In a forced overtime period, Nicholas Guaglione proved to be the hero Chatham needed to seal Westminster's fate just one minute and 12 seconds in.

With the win, the Cougars improve to 4-1 in the PAC and sink Westminster to 3-2. Chatham's final regular season matchup is scheduled for this Saturday, May 1st, at Thiel College.
