PITTSBURGH, Pa. – April 22, 2021 – The Chatham women's lacrosse team held off Saint Vincent in a tight matchup from a cold and wet UPMC Graham Field on Thursday night, 13-8. In the process, graduate
Anna Prendergast became Chatham's all-time leading goal scorer at 76.
It didn't come easy, as Saint Vincent scored three of the first four goals through the first 7:37. After that, it was all Chatham in the first half. It took some time, but the Cougars ripped off four straight goals to take a 5-4 lead heading into half.
The second half began with the Bearcats tying the score at 5-5 and once again the Cougars responded with a mini streak of three goals, all scored within 1:25. Both teams traded goals until the score read 9-8, and the Cougars finally put away the feisty Bearcats late in the game by scoring the contest's final four goals.
For the game, Chatham narrowly outshot Saint Vincent 30-28 and shots on goal were tied at 24 apiece. The Cougars turned it over 29 times but held advantages in ground balls (42-33), draw controls (15-8) and free-position shots (8-5).
Graduate
Bria Braddock continued her torrid pace with seven goals and eight points. Through the last two games, Braddock has accumulated 15 goals and 17 points. Prendergast was second in goals with three while fellow graduate
Rachel Belles scored twice and handed out an assist. The other goal was put in by sophomore
Phallon Kilduff.
Sophomore
Aria Dietrich had a great game in net, making 16 saves which falls just two shy of her season high.
Chatham finishes the regular season with a 7-2 record and 5-1 in conference play, marking the most successful regular season in program history in terms of winning percentage. The Cougars wait for the PAC playoffs, which begins on Wednesday, April 28.
