Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women’s Lacrosse Suffers Setback at Saint Vincent

LATROBE, Pa. – March 28, 2021 – Riding a strong two-game performance, the Chatham women's lacrosse team suffered its first defeat of 2021, a 9-8 disappointment at Saint Vincent. Chatham's record falls to 2-1.

It was a good start for Chatham. Junior captain Brielle Rapsas scored the first two goals of the contest, including the icebreaking goal just 29 seconds into the contest. However, Saint Vincent scored the next three goals to go up 3-2. Chatham salvaged a first half tie with a goal from junior Rachel Borucki.

In the second half, Saint Vincent once again scored three unanswered to start the latter 30 minutes. Chatham then turned to the reigning PAC Defensive Player of the Year Bria Braddock to generate some offense. She scored four of the five second half Cougar goals, all of them unassisted and one of them with a woman up.

SVC took a four-goal lead with 10:27 to play. In a game where goals were much harder to come by, Chatham had to mount a four-goal comeback to tie. Braddock's woman-up advantage came at 9:30, with Borucki adding one more at 6:30 to make the game 9-7. Braddock then sliced the deficit in half with an unassisted goal with 1:12 to go. However, that was the closest Chatham got.

Chatham outshot Saint Vincent 24-22 but trailed in shots on goal 18-16. Chatham won the battle in ground balls 36-32 and also 14 of the 19 draw controls. However, Chatham did not win the turnover battle at a slim 28-26 disadvantage. Saint Vincent caused four turnovers.

Braddock led all scorers with four goals and an assist. Borucki and Rapsas also added a pair of goals. First-year Stephanie Walter also handed out an assist. Sophomore Aria Dietrich took the loss and made nine saves.

Chatham returns home on Friday, April 2 under the lights as it hosts the reigning PAC champion Westminster Titans at 7:30.
