Men’s Hockey Comes Up Short in OT Thriller

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - March 27, 2021 - Men's Hockey had their final regular season game this evening at Wilkes University. Despite leading by two goals, the Cougars ultimately fell to the Colonels 4-3 in overtime.

First-year Carson Grainer came right out of the gate with a power play goal for the Cougars in the first period, assisted by sophomore Lucas Rothe and senior Jake Reed.

Wilkes came back at the end of the first to tie it, and the second period remained scoreless.

Grainer was back again with a third period goal just one minute in off of feeds from seniors Chad Bell and Cory King. Building off of Grainer's momentum, junior Tristan Simm was next to get on the scoresheet with an assist to line mate Michael Lamison.

Wilkes was handed two power plays, both of which they capitalized on to tie the game with just five minutes left in regulation, forcing overtime.

Chatham took a penalty late in the overtime period, giving Wilkes the man advantage they needed to score with just 39 seconds remaining.

Sophomore Kenneth Gill finished the game with a season-high nine shots on goal, followed by Grainer with five. In the circle, centerman Cory King won a game-high 14 draws.

On defense, Aidan Girduckis and Jake Reed contributed four and three blocks respectively. In goal, junior Ricardo Gonzalez made 35 saves, including 16 in the third period.
