Men’s Hockey Falls in Quarterfinal Round to #4 Elmira

ELMIRA, NY - March 31, 2021 - Men's Hockey participated in their historic first UCHC Quarterfinal game this evening at Elmira College. Elmira took advantage of being on home ice, taking a 6-0 lead over the Cougars and advancing to the semifinal round.

Elmira had earned the higher seed in the tournament after a close regular-season win over Chatham last weekend, securing home ice.

After an otherwise-even first period, Elmira's Jake Russo scored with just four seconds remaining.

The Cougars struggled with penalties throughout the second and third periods, successfully killing off five of six.

Chatham's offense was there, but net minder Chris Janzen was relentless in the Elmira crease. He stopped all 31 shots faced, a game-high nine of which came from first-year Carson Grainer.

At the other end, Ricardo Gonzalez had another great showing. He finished with 35 saves, including 14 in the second period alone. Defensemen Ben Lamm and Anthony Dom each had two blocks to Gonzalez' aid.

In the circle, senior Cory King won a game-high 13 face-offs, followed by co-captain Michael Lamison with 11.

The Cougars concluded the season with a 5-8 overall record - 5-5 in conference. They totaled 29 goals on the season, registering 50 assists. On the defensive front, goaltender Ricardo Gonzalez made 412 saves.
