PITTSBURGH, Pa. - March 19, 2021 - Men's Hockey defeated Lebanon Valley this evening, earning their fifth conference win of the season. The previous program record for conference wins was four in the 2018-19 season, making the 2020-21 squad the new all-time record holders.
The Cougars struck first, with sophomore Kenneth Gill netting his first of the season thanks to help from Tristan Simm and Chris Lutz. The lead did not last long, as Lebanon Valley scored just one minute later.
It would be first-year Carson Grainer with the game-winning goal to conclude the first period with an assist from Cory King. The goal was Grainer's second of the year, and King's assist was his sixth.
In the third period, the Dutchmen had two power play opportunities, but were unable to capitalize. Senior Niko Moulakelis scored the Cougars' insurance goal early in the period, with the sole assist going to classmate Noah Medalsy.
Junior goaltender Ricardo Gonzalez was solid in net for the Cougars, stopping 25 of 26 shots, including 11 in the third period.
Gill led the Cougars in shots with four, followed by Grainer, Medalsy, and Matt Mood with three apiece.
In the circle, senior Chris Lutz won a game-high nine draws. Cory King added seven of his own.
12 Cougars ended the game +1 for a team total of +10 on the night.
The Cougars are back in action tomorrow, March 20th, as they travel to Stevenson. Puck drop is at 7 PM.
