GROVE CITY, Pa. – February 17, 2021 – The Chatham men's basketball team had a tough outing in the first half of Tuesday's PAC quarterfinal game at Grove City, as the Cougars fell 78-57 to the defending PAC champion Wolverines.
The Cougars never led during Tuesday's game and got to within three points at the 9:47 mark in the first half. However, the Wolverines outscored Chatham 26-7 in the rest of the first half. This included a 14-0 run that ended the first half and extended into the first two baskets of the second.
Chatham won the second half overall 35-34, but by then it was too little too late. Grove City's lead ballooned to as many as 29 with three minutes to play as the Wolverines cruised to victory on their home floor.
Grove City from the field shot at a torrid .523 percent, including a .588 clip in the first half. Chatham shot .345 from the floor but just .200 from three, going six for 30. Grove City outrebounded Chatham 47-25 but the Cougars forced a tad few more turnovers (13-10). Chatham also swiped seven blocks.
Leading the way for the Cougars was junior
Ben Pollock at 13 points. He led the team with six rebounds and three blocks. Classmate
Brandon Bennett added 10 points off the bench in just 14 minutes of action. Sophomore
Brandon Lavernia had nine points, with all of his buckets coming from three-point range. Senior
Malik Potter led the team with three steals.
Chatham's season ends at 5-5 overall.
