PITTSBURGH, Pa. – March 14, 2020 – Chatham opened its home slate Sunday afternoon with back-to-back losses to Saint Vincent. The Cougars dropped game one 15-3 and lost game two 5-2.
Chatham fell behind early in the second and third innings thanks to a pair of two-RBI doubles and a SAC fly. Chatham drew its first runs across with a single by junior Nick Cuello scoring classmate
Hunter Swartz.
Saint Vincent added onto its lead with a two spot in the fourth and four runs in the fifth. After a scoreless 6
th frame, Chatham mustered a double from sophomore
Brandon Griener which scored freshman Corey Miller. Griener came around to score from a fielder's choice. Saint Vincent added four more in the eighth to finish the scoring.
Four pitchers toed the rubber in game one for Chatham. Freshman
Ryan Denz got the starting nod and the loss on the bump, pitching 2.2 innings and recording the team's only strikeout. Junior

Mitchell Thornton each went 2.1 innings, and sophomore
Cole Couchman finished the game for the Cougars.
Despite smacking 11 base hits, including three doubles from Griener, Swartz and junior
Caleb Lehman along with a triple from Miller, the Cougars surrendered 20 hits. Five Saint Vincent players recorded three hits.
The defense tightened up in the second game. Despite giving up runs in the first and third innings, Chatham tied the game in the fourth after a SAC fly from Cuello scored Swartz and freshman
Justin Marshall singled in classmate
Dylan Vogel. However, Saint Vincent had a big fifth inning in which it scored the three runs needed to secure the sweep.
Junior
Trevor Salvior started game two and took the loss despite pitching 4.0 innings and striking out a quartet of Bearcats.
Chatham looks to bounce back this weekend with a pair of double headers against Franciscan. The Cougars and Barons lock up on Saturday, March 20 at West Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
