UTICA, NY - February 27, 2021 - Chatham University Men's Hockey team traveled to Utica College this afternoon for their fourth conference game of the season. Utica scored one goal a period and Chatham could not find any luck on the offensive front.
The game remained even until the halfway point of the first period at which Utica's Brett Everson snuck one past junior goaltender Ricardo Gonzalez on the power play. Though the Cougars were down, Gonzalez remained focus and made 15 saves in the first period alone.
The second period saw 12 more shots aimed at Gonzalez and a successful penalty kill. Niko Moulakelis had a game-high four shots in the period, but Sean Dickson was perfect in net for the Pioneers.
The Cougars held off the Pioneers until late in the third period, once again fending off two power play attempts. Junior Michael Lamison had two scoring chances at the opposing end, but Dickson held strong. By the time the final buzzer sounded, the score was 3-0 in Utica's favor.
Ricardo Gonzalez finished the game with 35 saves, consistent with his efforts all season long thus far. Senior Noah Medalsy chipped in with a game-high three blocked shots.
On the offensive end, Moulakelis totaled five shots, followed by four from sophomore Matt Mood. In the circle, Carson Grainer went 8-10.
The Cougars pick back up next Friday in New York as they take on Nazareth at 4 PM, followed by a home match against Nazareth on Saturday at the same time.
