BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – February 20, 2021 – The Chatham women's basketball team's 56 team rebounds helped secure Chatham's first win of the 2021 campaign, an 84-67 triumph over the hosting Geneva Golden Tornadoes.
While the Cougars won by 17 points, the contest was much closer than the final score indicated. The first and third quarters were won by the Golden Tornadoes, while Chatham firmly controlled the second and fourth stanzas.
After a fairly even first quarter in which Geneva led by one, Chatham clamped down defensively in the second quarter and exploded with 27 points. The Cougar defense held the Golden Tornadoes to 3-13 from the field (.231) and 0-6 from deep range. Meanwhile, Chatham got to the free throw line nine times and sunk eight of those attempts.
The third quarter was a different story, with Geneva taking charge. The home team outscored Chatham 26-15 in the third, holding the Cougars to just 4-13 from the field (.308). In the fourth quarter, Chatham reassumed control and put away Geneva thanks to a .529 shooting performance from the field.
On the glass, Chatham was outstanding. The Cougars outrebounded the Golden Tornadoes 56-35, which included 19 offensive rebounds and 37 defensive boards. Graduate
Maddy Grennes had a game-high 17 rebounds, good for third all-time in single-game program history.
All five of Chatham's starters reached double-digit points. Grennes and senior
