BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - December 18, 2021 - Chatham Women's Basketball made up their previously postponed game at Geneva this afternoon. The Cougars would fall to the Golden Tornadoes 84-75. Chatham now stands at 7-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
The Cougars got off to a hot start in the first thanks to graduate Julianna Skowron, junior Riley D'Angelo, and first-year Zelimar Rodriguez. Graduate Maddy Grennes and first-year Aurielle Brunner would add crucial cushion to the Cougar lead, taking the Cougars into the second with a three-point margin.
Chatham would nearly double their own score in the second, expanding their total to 36. First-year Emily Durkee nailed a three early, but Geneva would make an offensive run shortly after to claim the lead. Before the quarter was done, however, the Cougars bounced back, seeing points from Durkee, Brunner, senior Aliyah Labriola, and junior Sierra McClain.
The Cougars wasted no time putting the Golden Tornadoes even further behind in the third as D'Angelo quickly poured on five points of her own. Skowron would follow, along with Grennes, McClain, Brunner, D'Angelo, and graduate Brittani Smith. Chatham would leave the third quarter with a 57-54 lead.
Riley D'Angelo would come out with a three to start the final quarter and break the 60-point mark for the Cougars. Geneva would unfortunately find their own offense late in the game, to get a leg up on Chatham, leading by as much as six points. In the game's final minutes, Geneva would add another four points.
Julianna Skowron racked up an impressive 25 points on the day, adding seven rebounds and going three-for-three at the charity stripe. Riley D'Angelo followed with the next highest point total of 13, adding a game-high four assists with Emily Durkee. Classmate Sierra McClain would obtain a game-high six steals.
