Women’s Basketball Dominates Bearcats for Seventh Win

LATROBE, Pa. - December 1, 2021 - Women's Basketball traveled to Saint Vincent this evening for a PAC matchup against the Bearcats. Chatham defeated Saint Vincent 56-40, giving the Cougars their first win over the Bearcats since January 27, 2016 (76-74). The win was also Chatham's seventh overall and second in conference.

Saint Vincent would come out on top by the end of the first quarter, leading by five points. The Cougars eight points came from graduates Julianna Skowron and Brittani Smith as well as first-year Aurielle Brunner.

Chatham would have an explosive second quarter, starting with a layup from senior Aliyah Labriola to cut the Bearcat lead down to three. First-year Emily Durkee would hit a perfect three to tie the game, followed by three made free throws by classmate Keegan McConahy and graduate Maddy Grennes pull ahead.

Up by eight after coming from behind, the Cougars continued their offensive dominance well into the third, nearly doubling their own score. Chatham's key points came from Skowron, Smith, and Grennes, as well as first-year Zelimar Rodriguez and junior Sierra McClain.

As the Bearcats attempted to make a comeback of their own in the fourth, the Cougars stood strong on defense to limit their opportunities.

Julianna Skowron led the team in points with 11, followed by Emily Durkee with 10, Brittani Smith and Zelimar Rodriguez with eight apiece, and Maddy Grennes with seven.

The Cougars hit eight three-pointers, contributing to their massive lead. Chatham collected 42 rebounds, with Grennes scooping a game-high 11. Rodriguez was the game's leader in steals with four.

The Cougars' next contest is Saturday, December 4th against Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pa.
