PITTSBURGH, Pa - November 5, 2021 - Chatham Women's Basketball hosted Penn State Greater Allegheny this evening in their first game of the season. Chatham maintained a lead throughout the entire game, dominating the Lions 75-39.
The first points of the season were credited to newcomer Julianna Skowron just 22 seconds into the game after she picked up a rebound from junior Riley D'Angelo.
Skowron would begin a scoring spree of her own, which was soon joined by classmate Maddy Grennes, senior Aliyah Labriola, and first-year Emily Durkee.
Up by 15 heading into the second quarter, first-year Zelimar Rodriguez tallied her first collegiate points with a three-point field goal. Graduate captain Brittani Smith soon followed with two good free throws, paving the way for first-year Keegan McConahy to notch two of her own.
Grennes, Smith, Labriola, and Durkee would continue dominating the floor in the third. First-year Aurielle Brunner would make an impact upon subbing in, extending the Cougars' lead to 30. Junior Sierra McClain would get on the board late in the game as well to keep the deficit over 30 after a few Lion points. The team's largest lead came in the fourth quarter, with a jumper from Keegan McConahy taking the Cougars up by 37.
Skowron led the Cougars with 18 points, followed by Grennes with 15 and Smith with 10. Labriola and Durkee notched eight each, combining for five steals. Brunner was responsible for seven of Chatham's 17 assists on the night. Skowron also led the Cougars in rebounds with 20.
The Cougars' next game is Wednesday, November 10th at 7 PM against Penn State Behrend at home.
