Women’s Basketball Mounts Comeback to Defeat NAIA Carlow

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - November 29, 2021 - Chatham Women's Basketball hosted the neighboring NAIA Carlow Celtics this evening in a non-conference matchup. Despite the Celtics getting off to an early lead, the Cougars clawed back to win 54-47.

Chatham was down by two threes early, with just 12 points in the first quarter supplied by graduate Maddy Grennes, junior Riley D'Angelo, and first-years Emily Durkee and Aurielle Brunner.

Brunner would continue her hot streak into the second, coming up with eight points to give the Cougars their first lead of the game.

The Cougars would not give up their lead again, with Grennes and classmates Brittani Smith and Julianna Skowron coming up with insurance points. Brunner would round out the quarter with a jumper to extend Chatham's lead to 10 heading into the fourth.

Senior Aliyah Labriola and junior Sierra McClain chimed into the scoring late in the game, getting the Cougars past the 50-point mark. The Celtics would only score 12 points in the quarter, taking the eventual loss.

Brunner and Grennes tied for a game-high 12 points, with each adding six and 14 rebounds respectively. Smith and Labriola were next in the point spread with six each - Smith adding nine rebounds and three assists.

The Cougars are back in PAC action on Wednesday, December 1 as they travel to Saint Vincent for a 5:30 PM tip.
