Cougars Claw Back, Force Tie with Manhattanville

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – November 20, 2021 – The Chatham Cougars played a second consecutive overtime tie in less than 24 hours, this time a lower scoring 2-2 deadlock with the visiting Manhattanville Valiants. The Cougars' record goes to 1-2-2 overall and in UCHC play.

After a scoreless first period, Manhattanville broke the ice just 89 seconds into the second. Chatham was able to respond when last season's leading scorer Carson Grainer notched his first of the season after getting an assist from junior Andrew Warhoftig and first-year Joshua Kalinowski. It was the latter's first career points to put the game at 1-1.

Manhattanville would respond less than a minute later on the power play, putting the score at 2-1 at the second intermission. However, the Cougars would get one more 3:39 into the third period. Warhoftig found sophomore Jackson Koblick, who fired a shot from the blue line that found the stick of senior Michael Lamison in front of the crease, making the score 2-2.

Neither team could break even in the remainder of the third period and in overtime, thus taking the game to a second straight shootout and tie. Chatham got one from sophomore Max Wigfield before Manhattanville responded with a goal of its own. After the next two Cougar shots were saved, Manhattanville got a goal to win the shootout 2-1.

For the match, Chatham outshot the Valiants 38-33 and held a sizable advantage in faceoff wins 43-35. Senior goaltender Ricardo Gonzalez stopped 31 shots fired his direction.

Chatham will spend the Thanksgiving week out of the UCHC and begin a lengthy road trip starting Tuesday in the Hoosier state, when it travels to Trine for a 7:00 pm puck drop.
