PITTSBURGH, Pa. - November 2, 2021 - Chatham University Volleyball made history today in their 3-1 victory over Geneva. In their first PAC post-season hosting bid, they are the sole team to advance to the PAC semifinal.
The Cougars played evenly with the Golden Tornadoes for the better part of the first set before they pulled six points ahead halfway through. Chatham's offense was led by senior Emily Richie, first-year Kaley Davis, and sophomores Baileigh Horan and Amelia Bogovich. The set ended with a kill from Richie at 25-22.
Geneva would take set two by a five-point margin, but Chatham came back strong for set three, getting off to a 15-5 lead. Joining the first set's offensive leaders were Graduate Macy King and junior Shaelah Pepperman with kills of their own. The Cougars would go on to win the set 25-14, having effectively worn down the Golden Tornadoes.
Chatham made quick work of Geneva in set four as well, forcing Geneva to burn through their timeouts early. Junior Rylee Ritko would serve for seven straight points to get the scoring rally started. Sophomore Meghan Dominek would thrive behind the line as well, serving up two straight aces. Chatham ended the game with a 25-16 set.
Amelia Bogovich had an explosive game, tallying a season-high 18 kills. Richie and Davis would record 11 each. The Cougars had a strong night of service as well, with Meghan Dominek finishing with four aces, followed by Bogovich with three and Ritko with two.
Defensively, Dominek totaled 22 digs, enough for her to break the 500-mark on the season. She was followed closely by Bogovich with 17 and Sophomore Paige Bogozi with 15.
Shaelah Pepperman would surpass 900 assists for the season, adding 40 in tonight's game.
The Cougars will head to Bethany on Thursday, November 4 for their semifinal matchup against the Bison at 7 PM.
