PITTSBURGH, Pa. – October 9, 2021 – The Chatham women's soccer team hosted Senior Day in grand fashion Saturday, defeating the Washington & Jefferson Presidents 2-0. The win improves Chatham's overall record at 6-3-1 and keeps the Cougars' conference record unblemished at 4-0.
The Cougars celebrated their seven graduating seniors during pregame festivities, in the form of
Tyler Colburn,
Morgan Anderson,
Cassidy Martin,
Emily Martz,
Greta Mort,
Paxton Steffy and
Kere O'Donnell.
The tone was set early in the first. Washington & Jefferson sent a shot on goal 52 seconds in that Colburn rejected right away. The Cougars then sent a flurry of shots at W&J, two of them found the back of the net. The first was from a free kick by Martz that initially went to junior
Olivia Wood, and she tapped the ball to Anderson who slipped past the W&J defense and scored.
The second goal came off a corner kick taken by Steffy. The initial shot by Anderson was ricocheted out of the 18-yard box where sophomore
Malia Hinton fired an upper-90 shot to make the score 2-0. Chatham played keep away to put down the Presidents for good.
Chatham outshot Washington & Jefferson 18-4, including 12-2 in the first half and 12-3 on goal. The Cougars had a quartet of corner kicks while limiting the Presidents to a trio.
Five Cougars played all 90 minutes, including Colburn, Hinton, Martz, junior
Emily Harvey and sophomore
Malia Hinton. Anderson fired three shots on goal, Hinton and Wood two, while Martz, Martin, freshman
Lauren Hall, graduate
Kyla Kelley and O'Donnell all had at least one shot.
The Cougars head on the road for the next two games, including Wednesday October 13 at Geneva for a 7:00 start.
