AURORA, Ill. - October 30, 2021 - Women's Hockey finished out their season-opening series with Aurora tonight.
Aurora started their scoring early and often, making the score 2-0 within the first 12 minutes. Chatham would receive a power play near the end of the period, which the unit of Abi Fuzaylov, Ally Nolan, Samantha Barrett, Lauren Carmody, and Lauryn Hawley would capitalize on. Barrett and Nolan would cycle the puck around to Fuzaylov, who netted the Cougars' first goal of the season.
Down by one heading into the second, Aurora came out strong again to score four second period goals. Halfway through the third, they would get their seventh and eighth goals of the night.
Hawley would make her collegiate point debut late in the third, netting an unassisted power play goal
Sophomore goaltender Lilly Rogers would enter the game in relief for senior Katy Reed, who made 20 saves. Rogers would add 13 more. Sophomore defenseman Roxee Hughes had a game-high three blocks, with Allison Corser-James and junior Brooke Almond adding four more.
The Cougars got 33 shots off on the Aurora goaltender, with a game-high five comes from each of three Chatham sophomore forwards Kaylynn Savoy, Abi Fuzaylov, and Allison Corser-James. Hawley added four, and Nolan and Lauren Carmody contributed three apiece.
In the circle, Nolan and Cameron Carmody both won ten face-offs.
Returning to Pittsburgh, the Cougars begin UCHC play with a series against Nazareth on November 5th and 6th at 7 and 2 PM respectively.
