PITTSBURGH, Pa. - October 19, 2021 - Chatham hosted Geneva tonight in a PAC matchup. Chatham sent Geneva home with three losses, beating them 25-16, 25-15, and 25-20.
Chatham's first set offense was generated by first-years Jessica Taney and Kaley Davis, sophomores Paige Bogozi and Amelia Bogovich, and senior Emily Richie. Defensively, the Cougars made the Golden Tornadoes work for each point as sophomores Meghan Dominek and Bogozi as well as junior Shaelah Pepperman covered every inch of the court.
Geneva got off to a quick start in set two, from which Chatham would recover and tie the game back up several times. Late in the game, however, the Golden Tornadoes would go on several scoring rallies, coming out on top to tie the match at one.
Sets three and four were Chatham's to lose with the Cougars getting off to early leads and maintaining them throughout. Graduate student Macy King took the lead on offense, tallying five kills in set three alone. Chatham's other points were supplied by junior Rylee Ritko, Bogozi, Bogovich ,and Davis.
Amelia Bogovich had her best showing of the season, leading the team in kills and aces with 16 and two respectively. Macy King would finish her four sets with 11 kills, followed by Kaley Davis with nine. King would also be credited with two blocks, both coming at crucial times in Geneva scoring.
Shaelah Pepperman recorded 46 assists and 11 digs, Meghan Dominek tallied 29 digs and three assists, and Amelia Bogovich contributed 10 more digs.
With the win, the Cougars snap a two-game loss streak, giving them much-needed PAC points late in the season. At 9-4 in conference, the Cougars have more chances to increase their win percentage later this week with games at Franciscan and Waynesburg.
