GROVE CITY, Pa. - October 16, 2021 - Chatham Volleyball traveled to Grove City this morning for their second PAC matchup of the season. After Chatham won the first set 25-22, Grove City rallied back for three straight set wins.
The Cougars maintained the lead throughout most of set one thanks to kills by Junior Rylee Ritko, sophomore Baileigh Horan, first-year Kaley Davis, and graduate Macy King. The nail in Grove City's coffin would come from a King kill followed by an ace from sophomore Paige Bogozi.
Set two was more of an even battle, with point rallies keeping the teams tied up for much of the set. Kaley Davis and Macy King again combined for the majority of the set's kills, supplemented by Horan, Ritko, and senior Emily Richie. With the score at 24-21 Grove City, the Cougars earned two more points in an effort to catch up, but were met with a kill from the Wolverines for their 25th point.
Sets three and four ended in favor of the Wolverines at 25-17 and 25-18 respectively.
Despite the loss, several Cougars put up impressive numbers. Rylee Ritko had a game-high 15 kills, followed by Macy King and Kaley Davis with 11 each. Shaelah Pepperman assisted on 43 of Chatham's 54 kills, putting the Cougars just below Grove City's 56. Baileigh Horan contributed three key blocks, with King and Davis putting up two each.
Defensively, the Cougars were all over the floor. Sophomore libero Meghan Dominek led with 23 digs, followed by Ritko with 20 and Bogozi with 18. Bogozi also contributed two service aces.
The Cougars, now 13-6 overall, return to action on Tuesday, October 19th when they host Geneva. The Cougars defeated the Golden Tornadoes 3-1 in their first meeting.
