PITTSBURGH, Pa. –
SEPTEMBER 8, 2020 – Chatham Athletics is proud to announce the hiring of Men's Lacrosse Coach Kevin McDonough. Coach McDonough is the second coach in Chatham Men's Lacrosse history and will lead the program into its fourth season in 2021.
McDonough, an Oakdale, New York native, comes from Ohio Wesleyan University where he served as the defensive coordinator for two seasons. At OWU, he was charged with practice planning, equipment management, recruiting coordination, strength and conditioning organization, and academic advising to his student-athletes.
In the 2019 season, McDonough helped five Ohio Wesleyan players to All-Conference Defensive honors and one defenseman to a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Newcomer of the Year accolade.
Prior to OWU, McDonough served as an assistant coach at Frostburg State University, specializing in defense, face-offs, and box coaching. In his three years at Frostburg, he helped coach two All-Conference defensemen and three All-Americans, one of which led Division III in face-off win percentage.
"We are excited that Coach McDonough has come on board," said Director of Athletics,
Leonard Trevino. "With this background and the success he has been apart of, we know that he is ready to move Chatham Lacrosse in the direction we want to go."
McDonough is a 2015 alumni of the University of Maryland-Baltimore County where he served as a two-year captain and three-year starter for their Division I lacrosse program. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from UMBC before receiving a Master of Education degree from Frostburg State in 2017.
"I'd like to thank Leonard and the rest of the search committee," said McDonough. "It's humbling to be chosen as the next head coach for the Men's Lacrosse program and I'm excited to start building relationships with the players, members of the athletic department, and the Chatham community as a whole. There is a great foundation that's already been laid and I'm looking forward to hitting the ground running and helping our guys compete at the highest level in the classroom and on the field."
McDonough is also grateful his family and girlfriend for helping him throughout his coaching career thus far. Additionally, he would like to thank his college head coach Don Zimmerman who inspired him to coach at the collegiate level, as well as Tommy Pearce and Mike Plantholt from Frostburg and Ohio Wesleyan who taught him the intricacies of being a head coach while serving on their staffs.
