VALENCIA, Pa. - Feb. 8, 2020 - The Cougars (3-17, 2-11) faced off against conference opponent Neumann (8-13-0, 6-8-0) on Saturday, February 8th. They were coming off a loss the previous day Friday, February 7th to Manhattanville in a 5-2 decision.
The first period opened up with both teams battling it out, as Chatham collected three penalties in the period. They would go into the second period with a 0-0 tie with the Knights leading the shots on goal battle 16-14 over the Cougars. Both teams started to find the back of the net in the second period, with Neumann scoring the first goal of the game to go ahead 1-0. Less than a minute later Chatham would respond with a goal of their own from junior Eric Hildebrand to tie the score up at 1-1.
With under four minutes to play in the second, the Cougars scored another goal this time from sophomore Michael Lamison to take the lead 2-1. Chatham stayed in the driver's seat for the rest of the period, as they would hold a one goal lead over the Knights going into the third period.
Neumann scored the equalizing goal 30 seconds into the third period to even the score at 2-2 with 19 minutes to play in the period. Both teams traded shots for the rest of the third but remained tied at 2 a piece forcing the game into overtime. The Knights would close out the game with the game winning goal 23 seconds into the overtime period. The Cougars fell by a final score of 3-2.
Hildebrand's goal was assisted by first year Ben Oslick and junior Chris Lutz while Lamison's goal was assisted by Ben Lamm.
Chatham is back skating on the ice next Friday, February 14th as they travel up to the Empire State to take on Utica College.
