Cougars lose back and forth battle between Bethany Saturday afternoon 74-69

BETHANY, WV. - Feb. 8, 2020 - The Cougars (13-8, 7-5) were on the road as they faced Bethany (3-17, 2-9) on Saturday, February 8th in a PAC matchup. Chatham recently lost to Grove City 74-65 in a battle for first place in the PAC on Wednesday, February 5th.

The first half started off slow for both teams, as they would only score 35 combined points at the 9:03 mark with Chatham on top 20-15. Bethany chipped away at Chatham's lead eventually taking the lead themselves 29-24 after a free throw by Aiden Albert. With forty-eight seconds to go in the half, the Bison added a jumper from Craig Sauers. They would head into the half with a four point difference with Bethany on top 35-31.

The Cougars started to claw their way back in the second half jumping out to a seven point lead after first year Marcos Cintron's fast break jumper made it 44-37. After a three pointer by Trey Shifflett, the Bison would make the score 44-43 with 13:55 to play. Chatham would cut the lead to three after first year Elijah Sutton made a free throw to put the score at 56-53. It was the closest they would get, as the Cougars would ultimately fall to Bethany 74-69.

Sutton was the leading scorer with 25 points while grad student Will Sandherr and Cintron added 13 points of their own.

The Cougars are back in the den this Wednesday, February 12th as they take on Thiel in a PAC conference matchup.
