PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Feb. 25, 2020 - Chatham (16-9, 10-5) was back in action as they faced off against the Yellow Jackets of Waynesburg (6-19, 6-9) in the quarterfinals matchup of the PAC Championship Tournament. The Cougars were coming off of a close matchup victory against Saint Vincent 90-73.
Chatham started off the match with a 15 point lead after sophomore Nick Bomar drained a three pointer with 9:59 left in the half. Chatham would lead by as many as 21 heading into half with a score of 44-23.
Waynesburg went on a 12-1 run at the start of the second half, inching back into the contest with the Cougar lead dwindling down to 11 with 16:07 left in the game. Waynesburg would put the game within four points, as Isaiah Alonzo hits a jumper with 8:46 to go in the half. The Cougars and Yellow Jackets would go back and forth in the final minutes of the contest, with Chatham coming out on top 72-64 for their 17th win of the season.
Junior Malik Potter was the leading scorer for the Cougars with 24 points, and first-year Elijah Sutton added 14 of his own, shooting a perfect 5-5 from the floor and 4-4 from three point range.
#2 Chatham faces #5 Geneva in the PAC Championship Tournament Semifinal on Thursday, February 27th. Tip-off is set for 7 PM. This will be the first time that Chatham hosts a semi-final matchup in history.
