PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Feb. 22, 2020 - The Cougars (1-0, 0-0) continued their early season non-conference play with a home matchup between the Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley (0-0, 0-0) on Saturday, February 22nd. Chatham opened their season with a win on Wednesday, February 19th in a down to the wire win over Mount Union 13-12.
The opening minutes saw the Dutchmen take an early 1-0 lead off of a goal from Josh Croyle. Chatham answered right back with a goal of their own, with junior Kyle Prewitt finding sophomore Jake Brown for the equalizing goal. Both teams would score one goal each in the proceeding minutes leaving the score tied 2-2 with 2:42 left in the first. Chatham started to separate themselves by scoring three straight goals before the end of the quarter giving themselves a 5-2 lead into the second.
The Cougars defense anchored their incredible second quarter play by holding the Dutchmen scoreless for the entire quarter. Chatham went on a scoring tear before the end of the half, scorching eight goals before the break. They held a 10-2 lead over Lebanon Valley going into the second half.
Lebanon Valley started to make some noise in the second half, scoring three goals in the third quarter to cut the Cougars lead to 11-5 heading into the fourth. The Dutchmen continued to carve away at the Cougars lead, scoring four goals in two minutes to bring them within two of Chatham. The Cougars were able to hold on and garner their second win of the season by a final of 12-10.
Prewitt dropped four goals on the day with two assists, while sophomores Nick Guaglione and Brown both had two goals apiece.
Chatham is back in action Sunday, February 23rd as they take on Gwynedd Mercy in the second of a two day weekend tournament
