BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - Feb. 15, 2020 - The Cougars (13-9, 7-8) were back on the road to take on the Golden Tornadoes (2-18, 1-12) of Geneva in a road matchup on Saturday, February 15th. Chatham was coming off a dominating performance against Thiel where they took down the Tomcats 76-45.
The game opened up with both teams trading the lead within the first few minutes of the quarter, with Chatham taking a one point lead after junior Katie Fertig scored an and one layup. Geneva came right back and answered with three straight baskets that would put the Golden Tornadoes on top of the Cougars 18-15. The Cougars would regain the lead before the end of the quarter to go out ahead of Geneva 25-23.
The two teams continued to fight for much of the second quarter, but the Cougars stayed in command of the lead holding a 36-30 advantage with 5:38 left in the half. They started to pull away with the lead taking a 51-39 edge with under a minute to play in the half. Chatham went into the break with a 52-41 hold over the Golden Tornadoes.
In the second half, the lead would begin to mount for the Cougars as they pulled ahead of the Golden Tornadoes by as many as 29 points in the third. They went into the final quarter with a 80-53 lead over Geneva. The Cougars never took their foot off the gas, as they would go on to defeat Geneva by a final of 95-75.
Chatham was led by first year Riley D'Angelo who scored a career high 33 points on 10-17 shooting from the field and 10-15 from three. First year Sierra McClain also finished with a career high as she scored 22 points herself.
The Cougars finish out the regular season at the den Saturday, February 22nd as they will host the Bearcats of Saint Vincent.
