PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Feb. 12, 2020 - Chatham (12-9, 5-8) went up against the Tomcats of Thiel College (0-21, 0-12) in a home conference matchup on Wednesday, February 12th. The Cougars came into the contest looking to snap their three game losing streak, most recently dropping one on the road to Bethany 62-55 on Saturday, February 8th.
The Cougars jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead early in the first quarter, with grad student Emily Ondo scoring five of those nine opening points. They would dominate the rest of the quarter, allowing only four points to the Tomcats giving Chatham an 18-4 lead going into the second. The Cougars extended their already large lead to as many as 18 in the second quarter, putting them out ahead of Thiel 29-11. They would go into halftime with a 29-13 lead over Thiel, shooting 35% from the field. Ondo finished the half with eight points to lead all Cougar scorers.
They continued their domination into the second half, ending the third quarter with a 51-29 lead over the Tomcats. Thiel could not make up any ground offensively in the fourth, as Chatham would snap their three game losing streak defeating the Tomcats 76-45. The Cougars shot 37% from three in the second half, with first year Sierra McClain connecting on four of her six threes.
Chatham was led by McClain, Ondo and sophomore Aliyah Labriola all finishing with 15 points each. McClain's 15 points were a career high for her, surpassing her previous career high of 14 points earlier in the season.
The Cougars hit the road this weekend to take on the Golden Tornadoes of Geneva College on Saturday, February 15th.
