Chatham Edges Out Washington and Jefferson in Down to the Wire Finish 68-64

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Feb. 1, 2020 - The Cougars (12-7, 8-3) were back at the den to take on the Presidents' of Washington and Jefferson (10-9, 5-5) in a home conference matchup on Saturday, February 1st. Chatham was coming off a 56-42 win over Waynesburg on Wednesday, January 29th.

Things started slow for Chatham, as they found themselves down seven early on trailing Washington and Jefferson 13-6. They would go back and forth over the next few minutes, with the Cougars taking a three point after a three by first year Elijah Sutton. The Presidents' would regain the lead after Primo Zini would connect on a jump shot to make the score 24-21. After Sutton knocked down a pair of free throws before the break, Chatham went into the half with a two point lead 31-29.

The second half continued with back and forth play from both teams, with Chatham holding a two point lead 40-38 with 14:28 left in the half. Washington and Jefferson went on a 9-0 run to take the lead 51-42 over Chatham with under ten minutes to play in the half. The Cougars slowly started clawing their way back into the game, with first year Garrett Farah hitting a three to cut the lead to seven 60-53 with 4:17 left in the game. The two teams would exchange the lead multiple times in the final two minutes, with grad student Will Sandherr hitting a crucial off balance shot putting the score at 63-62. The Cougars would hold onto the lead and come out on top 68-64 for their 13th win of the season and 8th in the conference.

Five Cougars found themselves in double digits, as first year Marcos Cintron finished with 14 points, while both Will and Ray Sandherr scored 12 points and Sutton and junior Malik Potter pitched in 11 of their own.

Chatham is back at the den Wednesday, February 5th as they will take on the Wolverines of Grove City.
