Cougars Rebound After Saturday’s Loss to Defeat Bethany 74-60

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Jan. 8, 2020 - Chatham (7-4, 1-3) was back in the den Wednesday, January 8th as they took on the Bison of Bethany College (3-9, 2-2) in their fourth conference matchup of the season. The Cougars were coming off a tough loss on Saturday, January 4th against Grove City where they fell to the Wolverines 77-35.

The Cougars started off strong, jumping out to a quick five-point lead two minutes into the game after a jump shot by junior Katie Fertig. Chatham would stay out ahead for the remainder of the first quarter, going into the second with an 18-10 lead over Bethany.

The Bison hung right with Chatham for most of the second, pulling within 6 points of the Cougars with 7 minutes remaining in the half. The Cougars would go back out ahead of Bethany by 10 after another jumper by Fertig with three minutes remaining in the quarter. Bethany would diminish the Cougars double digit lead to only four points after Alexis Heap made a jumper seconds before the clock expired for halftime.

The second half started with both teams trading baskets in the opening minutes with Chatham clinging to a three-point lead 35-32. Minutes later, Bethany's Allison Kuhn would tie the score up after knocking down a three with six minutes to play in the quarter. Chatham would end the third on a 9-3 run regaining the lead over the Bison 44-38 going into the final quarter.

Still clinging to a slim lead, Chatham would start separating themselves in the fourth quarter going ahead nine points after Fertig would connect on another three. The lead would balloon to as many as 16 points as the Cougars would come out victorious 74-60 over Bethany.

Katie Fertig led the Cougars with 29 points shooting 12-20 from the field while graduate student Emily Ondo added 28 points of her own to go along with 8 rebounds.

The Cougars are back dropping dimes this Saturday, January 11th as they will travel to take on the Tomcats of Thiel College at 1 PM.
