Chatham falls in first UCHC matchup of 2020 to Stevenson 9-3

STEVENSON, Md. – Jan. 4, 2020 – The Chatham University men's hockey team falls to Stevenson in scoring frenzy Saturday afternoon 9-3.

RECORDS: With the loss, Chatham falls to 2-13-0 (1-8-0 UCHC) while Stevenson improves to 11-1-0 (8-1-0 UCHC).

WHAT'S NEXT: Chatham faces Buffalo State at Frozen Pond Arena Tuesday, January 7th in a non-conference matchup. Puck drop is set for 7:10 p.m.

SCORING SUMMARY: Stevenson scored three goals in the first period, one was a power play goal near the end of the period.

Chatham stayed silent in the first period, trailing Stevenson 3-0 at the end of the first.

Stevenson scored three goals in the second period, making the score 6-0, before the Cougars answered back.

The Cougar goal was scored at 10:32 by Niko Moulakelis, assisted by Blake Halfpenny.

Two minutes later, the Cougars scored again this time from a power-play thanks to Tristan Simm, assisted by Andrew Breda and Michael Lamison.

Stevenson would score once more before the second period ended. The Cougars trailed Stevenson 7-2 heading into the final period of regulation.

Stevenson scored their eighth goal three minutes into the third period, now leading Chatham 8-2.

The Cougars scored shortly after Stevenson at 11 minutes into the period thanks to Noah Medalsy, assisted by Andrew Warhoftig and Jason Bauer.

Stevenson would score once more before the end of regulation. The Cougars would fall to Stevenson 9-3.

GOALTENDING: Ricardo Gonzalez suffered the loss tonight for the Cougars. Gonzalez recorded 21 saves, including 13 in the first period.

SHOTS LEADER: Cory King led the Chatham attack with five shots on goal.

FACE-OFFS: King won a team best nine faceoffs.
